The Australian Centre for Business Growth has announced the appointment of Shane Cheek to the newly created position of Deputy Director. His industry experience spans senior roles within investment and funds management, strategy consulting and technology commercialisation. He has founded companies in enterprise software, technology services and corporate advisory.
Shane started, grew and exited three companies of his own, helped commercialise university research, developed his investment skills while at Playford Capital and was a founder and General Partner of Acumen Ventures where he continued to make investments in early-stage technology companies in Australia and South East Asia. Prior to founding Acumen, Shane built a successful transaction advisory firm, advising high growth technology companies in Australia and South East Asia.

ANZ Chair in Business Growth and Director of the Centre, Dr Jana Matthews, said that she was delighted that Shane had agreed to join as Deputy Director.
“Shane’s experience in business is extensive and he’s worn many hats throughout his career,” she said. “From working as a CEO to adviser, mentor to investor, we anticipate that this wealth of experience will help steer the Centre through its next stage of growth.
The news comes as the Centre recently celebrated 500 companies completing its programs, with Shane saying that he was excited to take the Centre’s growth to the next level in the coming years.“I’m excited to join the Centre as Deputy Director at a time when so many companies have benefited from the programs we run here,” he said. “The recent launch of our virtual clinics is another great step forward, and we’re excited to take the number of companies we engage with from 500 to 5000 in the coming years.”
